woman killed in auto/pedestrian hit-and-run accident Tuesday morning

A 55 year-old Lexington woman was killed
in an auto/pedestrian hit-and-run accident during the early
morning hours Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
Alena
Suzanne Woelfel, who was reported to be disabled, had parked her
vehicle on the northbound shoulder of US 77, 0.4 miles north of
County Road 418. According to the Department of Transportation
crash report Woelfel was standing beside her vehicle in the
northbound outside lane talking with the passenger of another
vehicle at approximately 2:35 A.M..
Woelfel was struck by a vehicle,
possibly an 18-wheeler, that was also traveling northbound. The
operator of the vehicle that struck Woelfel kept driving,
failing to stop and render aid. Authorities have not been able
to locate the vehicle or its driver.
A passenger who was seated in Ms.
Woelfel's vehicle during the accident stated that he witnessed
an 18-wheeler passing at the time of the crash.
Justice of the Peace Candace Walch
pronounced Ms. Woelfel deceased at the scene at 3:08 A.M. DPS
Trooper Jeremy Weiser worked the accident and was assisted by
DPS Sgt. Richard Krenek and Lee County Deputy Jeremiah Rudolph.
The accident is under investigation.
